London became the first National Park City in July 2019.

A community-grassroots movement celebrating and supporting action by millions of people in their community. “London National Park City is the world’s first National Park City. A place, a vision and a movement to improve life in London. We’re doing this by enjoying being outdoor more and helping to make our city greener, healthier and wilder.”  (www.nationalparkcity.london)

The National Park City Foundation (NPCF), in partnership with World Urban Parks and Salzburg Global Seminar, created the first International Charter for National Park Cities (NPC). While London is the first, NPCF is aiming to name at least 25 National Park Cities by 2025 and is already in discussion with other UK and world cities to help them gain NPC status.

How does this work in practice? One example of the many and versatile activities of the London National Park City is the Rangers Program. Some of the volunteer rangers talk about their experiences in the following video.

Let’s not only make London a greener, healthier and wilder habitat. Imagine your city would become the next National Park City…
