Riitta Ikonen and Karoline Hjorth have created a new book.
Eyes as Big as Plates is a remarkable and ongoing art project by Riitta Ikonen and Karoline Hjorth that addresses the question of how modern humans belong to nature. Since 2011, the Finnish-Norwegian artist duo has portrayed over 100 elderly people, artfully dressed in elements of nature and photographed in environments that have special meaning for the portrayed person. The result is outstanding work that draws attention to the essential relationship between human beings and their environment. The portraits captivate the viewer with playful ease and an aura of stillness and yet they communicate a very strong message: WE ARE NATURE.
